This online
curriculum has been created to assist grades 4–12
classrooms in using the documentaries, as well as extending
the learning into multiple disciplines. Lessons not
only connect to a variety of art topics, but also link
to topics in Science, Math, Language Art, and Social
Studies. The documentaries and curriculum were designed
with several goals –
- Students will gain an awareness
of important Oregon artists
- Students will increase their understanding
of different artistic processes
- Students will analyze the relationship
between an artist, his or her work, and the societies
in which they have participated
There are six lessons for each artist
connecting to one or more of the following themes.
Lessons are organized by Artist, Subject,
and Theme and are designed to be flexible so that a
teacher can choose to use all or part of a particular
lesson, to use all six lessons for a particular artist,
or to use the entire curriculum.
Although most lessons only require
students to watch a particular segment of the documentary,
teachers should preview the whole video for context
(and to know where to cue it). Lessons incorporate a
variety of learning modalities and experiences. Many
lessons refer to a particular image or set of images.
These images can be found on the Selected Images page
for that artist. Also available on the website is a
short written biography for each artist, and on the
Resources page, there is a glossary, a list of online
links, and other supportive materials. |
